Siemens AG → Siemens — The company's brand name is Siemens, the "AG" just means that it is a publicly listed company, and shouldn't be part of the article's name — Axt (talk) 10:41, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

- Support rename. /Blaxthos ( t / c ) 18:00, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose The question is not the meaning of Aktiengesellschaft, but whether AG is commonly used in English with Siemens. My Sprachgefühl is that it is. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 19:25, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Support. The only reason to include 'AG' would be for purposes of disambiguation. We have Bombardier rather than Bombarder Inc, Volvo rather than AB Volvo, and Google rather than Google Inc. - I can't see why Siemens is a different case. David Arthur (talk)
- Support. Wikipedia:Naming conventions (companies) says that the legal status (i.e. "AG" here) is not required unless disambiguation is needed. --DAJF (talk) 11:42, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- As Pmanderson says, usage is what matters; in my experience the AG is more often than not omitted, so I support Knepflerle (talk) 19:04, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Any additional comments:
I believe the AG is there because at various times, Siemens was a disambiguation page and the company needed a disambiguating term. AG is as good as any. I would recommend having something like "(conglomerate)" or "(company)" or "AG" to allow links to the company to be kept "straight" should the change be made again. (John User:Jwy talk) 16:15, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think it's necessary to have a disambiguator. Siemens currently redirects here, so it's currently considered primary usage, and the page should be titled simply "Siemens". In future, if and when this is changed, e.g. the disambiguation page wants to be moved to Siemens, then we can add the disambiguator (like "(company)") to the title. 128.232.100.142 (talk) 16:53, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
