Borough?
[edit]A 1921 law established the Borough of Basking Ridge, pending a referendum. I guess this didn't pass, since I can't find anything else about it, except for an entry in "The Story of New Jersey's Civil Boundaries, 1606-1968", which probably states that it was defeated. Given page numbers, others that were proposed include West Belmar Borough and Wyckoff Borough. --NE2 11:47, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Map
[edit]That is an awful map! Is Basking Ridge actually on it someplace? Can't a better one be found with the area more clearly located? Student7 (talk) 12:39, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Notable people
[edit]An editor added a header here, without discussion, to the "notable people" section which read "notable current and former residents of Basking Ridge include". That same editor then changed it here, without discussion, to read "people who were born in, residents of, or otherwise closely associated with Basking Ridge include". Neither header is required or necessary, per WP:USCITIES. Moreover, both headers are incorrectly worded, per WP:USCITIES, which states that the "notable people" section should contain information about "any famous or notable individuals that were born, or lived for a significant amount of time, in the city". If the consensus is that some header should be included ahead of what seems a self-explanatory section, it should be in accordance with some Wikipedia guideline or policy. I have removed it for now, and welcome discussion. There is also a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New Jersey#Standardization of New Jersey city/town articles. Thank you. - WP:USCITIES is *NOT* policy and offers no guidance as to the presence, absence or mandated wording from on high of a note at the top of the section. It has no bearing as a justification to remove or reword the heading that appears here. In the absence of a Wikipedia guideline or policy, we editors have the flexibility and creativity to build articles, and this is what has been done in hundreds upon hundreds of articles. There is an active discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New Jersey#Standardization of New Jersey city/town articles at which there is no consensus to remove the note. Sadly, User:Magnolia677 appears to be forum shopping, trying to find multiple places to fight the same battle rather than addressing it in a single location. The heading has been reinserted. - (Comment from uninvolved editor) I agree that Magnolia677 is forum shopping, which is why I removed the entry from WP:3...but then Magnolia put it right back (I then removed it again; I'm starting to sense some WP:IDHT). Erpert blah, blah, blah... 05:22, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
- Actually, it wasn't forum shopping. Multiple issues were raised on another board--including the one raised here--but no other editor but User:Alansohn responded. I was also careful to disclose that this issue has been raised on another board, as suggested in forum shopping. Alansohn was tracking my edits, and noticed I had asked for a third opinion. He then added his personal opinion there, despite the rule that "no discussion of the issue should take place here". Good grief! Magnolia677 (talk) 07:12, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
