On mythology- some accounts have Linus as the son of Kalliope, rather than Terpsichore. Or am I misremembering this? FZ 01:39, 20 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Linus == impolite ??

[edit]

This thread could add some details if someone with better knowledge about this word can support this claim. Linus Torvalds posted this email on Linux Kernel mailing list sometimes last week. Was he joking are is he serious?

I got slashdotted! Yay!

I also claim that Slashdot people usually are smelly and eat their boogers, and have an IQ slightly lower than my daughters pet hamster (that's "hamster" without a "p", btw, for any slashdot posters out there. Try to follow me, ok?).

Furthermore, I claim that anybody that hasn't noticed by now that I'm an opinionated bastard, and that "impolite" is my middle name, is lacking a few clues.

Finally, it's clear that I'm not only the smartest person around, I'm also incredibly good-looking, and that my infallible charm is also second only to my becoming modesty.

So there. Just to clarify. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.240.194.10 (talk) 09:27, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First or middle name?

[edit]

It is not common to add first (or middle) names into disambiguations, unless for very special cases. Pavel Vozenilek 01:55, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Paul of Tarsus

[edit]

While the below entry is interesting, it is incorrect for a disambiguation page. If someone wants to add it to the article on Pope Linus, that would be appropriate. - Corporal Tunnel 00:57, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Linus was a figure mentioned at Paul of Tarsus's Second Epistle to Timothy: 'Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren.' (2Tim.4:21, KJV) This may or may not be the same person as Pope Linus.

Origin

[edit]

I've found an article that claims it means ‘flax’ or ‘flax colored’ by accidentally searching Google for “linus surname origin” 46.39.45.193 (talk) 04:59, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
