Adminship
[edit]Just thought I'd let you know that User:UninvitedCompany has nominated you at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Frecklefoot. Andre (talk) 19:45, Nov 11, 2004 (UTC)
- Yes, I did. I hope you'll accept. I believe Wikipedia is well served by having established contributors with a solid understanding of the project become admins, and that certainly describes you. uc 21:02, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Um, thanks, but I'd rather not be an admin. Wikipedia takes too much of my time already! Thanks for saying I'm knowledgable, but I can't do any more than I already do. Thanks anyway. :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 21:17, Nov 11, 2004 (UTC)
LDS Category
[edit]- "Notable" sounds awkward; we should assume that all people who have articles in Wikipedia are notable by default. Also, and you may have heard this, about the hysteria over Category:Mormons. My plan is to keep that category and add the subcategory Category:Latter-day Saints. In this way we can have other categories for people who are Mormon but are not members of the LDS Church.
- Cheers. Neutrality (hopefully!) 21:07, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)
Article Licensing
[edit]I've "started" the Free the Rambot Articles Project which aims to get users to release all of their contributions to the U.S. state, county, and city articles (if any) under the CC-by-sa 1.0 and 2.0 license (at minimum) or into the public domain if they prefer. A secondary, but equally important, goal is to get those users to release ALL of their edits for ALL articles. I've personally chosen to multi-license all of the rambot and Ram-Man contributions under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License so that other projects, such as WikiTravel, can use our articles. I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all your contributions (or at minimum those on the geographic articles) so that we can keep most of the articles available under the multi-license. Many users use the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or even MultiLicensePD for public domain) on their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I understand, but I thought I'd at least ask, just in case, since the number of your edits is in the top 100. If you do want to do it, simply just copy and paste one of the above two templates into your user page and it will allow us to track those users who have done it. For example:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain (which many people do or don't like to do, see Wikipedia:Multi-licensing), you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD -- Ram-Man 00:19, Nov 26, 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for the offer, but I'd like to keep my edits under the GFDL. — Frecklefoot | Talk 00:19, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)
Stubs
[edit]Hey Frecklefoot, since you seem to be a veteran here I'd value your input over here: Talk:A_Planet_Called_Treason --SDG 07:18, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Marcus Stewart
[edit]Marcus Stewart is in fact a well-known footballer. You listed him for speedy deletion for "vanity". The latter is not of course a criterion for speedy deletion. I have removed the tag. If you truly believe that this article should be deleted, please list it on VfD, where it will inevitably fail to reach a consensus.Dr Zen 23:46, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- We all make mistakes. The original version looked like a vanity entry. Oops! :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 15:27, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)
Image of Carmack
[edit]Thanks, I really like it too. I actually captured it along with a few others from that trailer back in May 2002 (when the trailer was brand new), with no intent of keeping it for Wikipedia but to show for a few people who didn't have bandwidth to download the trailer. I rediscovered it while browsing an image directory on an old website of mine... - Fredrik | talk 08:55, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Ezra Taft Benson
[edit]What is the difference between a stake and a ward? Thanks Edwin 21:32, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- A ward is what most churches refer to as a congregation. It can be comprised of between 100 and 200 families (more or less). A stake is made up of several wards. It is a superset of wards.
- Each ward has a bishop. But each stake has a Stake President. In areas where membership is too low for a ward, the Church instead has a "branch." A branch will have a Branch President. Though not a bishop, he is analogous to a bishop in a ward. Branches will also fall under the umbrella of a stake. HTH. :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 23:01, Dec 13, 2004 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for the clarification. I appreciate it! Edwin 23:02, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Video game article
[edit]This is kind of old, but I just saw you accused me of spamming the video game article. I think it's great that you're weeding out spammers on wikipedia, but I don't think it's really fair in this situation, because they do provide free statistics. Anyway, it doesn't really matter, I just had to get that off my back because I don't like being called a spammer :) Jacoplane 13:36, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- My bad. I looked at the main page and saw that it was a commercial cite. The page you linked to was indeed their free statistics. It just wasn't blindingly obvious (to me) that they were. If you add it back in, I won't revert it this time. Peace. :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 17:22, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)
Mormonism articles
[edit]Nice to see you back at the Mormonism articles. I hope the climate is clement and you find yourself contributing there a lot again. Tom - Talk 03:55, Jan 9, 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I've been monitoring some for quite a while, but haven't made any changes due to the level of flaming that goes on. I just didn't have the bandwidth to justify changes and argue against others. But it seemed others were handling the situations nicely. The only significant contribution (that I recall) lately is the Haun's Mill Massacre, and that was just a stub. But it's nice to see someone noticed! :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 15:23, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)
Rename of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

"University"
[edit]I noticed you asked a question (perhaps just rhetoric?) in one of your edits to Sims 2 University about the need for system requirements. I believe it is a useful fact that users would appreciate being included. Its true that Maxis' main site for the game does have the system requirements, but I believe its important enough to include right on the article (The Sims 2 article does this as well). Hopefully it'll look better when there's more to the article :). bernlin2000 ∞ 19:14, Jan 10, 2005 (UTC)
My very first sub-page
[edit]Yes, it came out beautifully. Care to take a peek? User:Alisonsage. A good sense of humor is definitely in order... allie 23:19, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Campbell Chronology
[edit]Too late! The chronology is now underway on User:Alisonsage/Campbell Chronology. It's pretty much the same thing that's currently on the Campbell's page, just listed in chronological order. The formatting is a bunched up, I know. Franco-American deserves its own paragraph in the article, I think, because it morphed from a maker of gourmet soup into Spaghetti-O's 50 years later! Haven't finished it yet. For example: didn't included their sales figures. They're like McDonald's. My only problem is my source: America's Favorite Food: A History of Campbell Soup Company was WRITTEN by Campbell's. So the entire article's perspective is POV, without another reference citation. --allie 14:26, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I nominated him for Wikipedia:Collaboration of the week please show your support :) ALKIVAR™ 23:53, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I already did. Thanks for nominating it! :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 16:37, Jan 25, 2005 (UTC)
Re: America's Army
[edit]Well the first thought is not going to work LOL :) If you want to add it, go ahead, he'll notice and revert it. America's Army was recently added to RfC (not by myself), so I think we should just let that play out, although admittingly I don't know how that all works. I contacted Andre due in most part to him being involved with Mediation and thought he could offer some sort of advice for this situation. We'll see where this goes. K1Bond007 17:12, Jan 27, 2005 (UTC)
- I just found out theres two forms of RFC. One for an article another for users. I guess we should file one on this user. If you want to do it, go for it. I'll sign it and add a ton to it. I'm sure it won't be hard to get other users from that talk page as well. If I do it, I probably won't be able to devote enough time to make a good "complaint" till tomorrow . Wikipedia:Requests for comment K1Bond007 20:20, Jan 27, 2005 (UTC)
Okay, I did it. You can find it here (the main page is listed here). Afraid I didn't do a very good job. Didn't have much time and some of the sections of the "form" seem duplicated. Please expand/improve. — Frecklefoot | Talk 21:19, Jan 27, 2005 (UTC)
- Right-o. I'll take a look. I'll probably expand it later tonight though. Am I able to edit the description or should I expand elsewhere? Also I'm supposed to sign it, but I'm kinda confused where :) I'll figure it out soon enough K1Bond007 23:55, Jan 27, 2005 (UTC)
- Well I added on at the bottom of the page although at the moment I'm not sure I put it in the correct place. Anyway, I think you need to sign it where Andre and I have. Thanks K1Bond007 01:48, Jan 28, 2005 (UTC)
It said that I'm not supposed to sign it anywhere else if I'm the one who wrote the "Summary" part. I signed my name there, but didn't think I was allowed to sign it elsewhere. Correct me if I'm wrong. :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 16:05, Jan 28, 2005 (UTC)
Well nothing to be sorry about. I'm just tired of discussing it and arguing about it. When we started the RFC I thought we'd get a lot more comments from users and not just from a guy who's been registered with Wikipedia for only a week or two. I also quit because it appears the RFC was going no where. No one wanted to discuss the matter at all. It kept getting routed to whether video games are a notable subject for Wikipedia and about the arguement over whether the game is propaganda (which while being contested often on that article, wasn't the subject of the RFC). It really says something about Wikipedia when a complaint isn't properly heard and discussed. I obviously really like Wikipedia, but twice now I've been disgusted with it over this one article. Perhaps I'll try again in a month or two. K1Bond007 17:34, Feb 1, 2005 (UTC)
Firaxis Games
[edit]I noticed that you added what "Type" of company Firaxis is in the fact box. I think that "Type" refers to whether is is a Public or Private company. That's the way it is in the Microsoft factbox. --Munchkinguy 18:36, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I hadn't seen the box before and took a stab at it. I don't know if it is private or public (probably private), so I won't change it. Should we leave it the way it is until someone finds out? — Frecklefoot | Talk 18:55, Jan 28, 2005 (UTC)
- I have no idea. I have spent hours looking through company profiles on the internet, but they either are restricted to paying customers, or have no information. --Munchkinguy 23:15, 28 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Video Gamer revisions
[edit]Howdy, I noticed you cleaned up the "Gamer Subculture" articles. There is one particular thing in your revision that seems odd though -- "With the exception of the Gamecube, today's consoles have moved from CDs to DVDs to contain more game content."
This is partly false, as the Gamecube does in fact use DVD (And only DVD) format media. The only difference is that it's size is smaller then standard sized DVDs used by Microsoft and Sony. I'll let you decide if you want to change that or not. --140.211.122.171
- Sorry, I was under the impression that they didn't use DVDs. Still it sounds like they don't use standard DVDs like the XBox and PS2 do. Bummer for them, it can only hurt sales. We use our PS2 as a DVD player all the time. :-S I changed the info in the Gamer article. Was there another one? — Frecklefoot | Talk 19:06, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)
GCOTW
[edit]I'm giving you this message because you have been active on Gaming Collaboration of the week in the past. The collaboration had a bit of a hiatus, but it's now active again. A new article will be chosen this Sunday. It would be greatly appreciated if you visited the page to vote and/or make new nominations and worked on next week's GCOTW. Thanks. --Slowking Man 08:00, Feb 4, 2005 (UTC)
