So, let me get this straight
[edit]According to the article, this song, recorded and released in 1995, is about a magazine photo shoot that took place in 1997? MemoriesFade (talk) 08:57, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Both the spelling and grammar in this page are atrocious
[edit]I can't even bear to look at it long enough to fix it 71.115.62.91 (talk) 09:29, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- I have attempted to clean up some of the language and spelling in the song info section, but there's quite a bit more to be done TorW (talk) 16:53, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
old comments
[edit]Don't Speak is not about Gwen Stefani's break up with No Doubt's bassist, Tony Kanal, as many other tracks on the album are. The song is about Gwen and her brother Eric growing apart from each other (as Eric had left the band shortly before the album's release). The song was even written by both Stefani siblings.
Canadian chart positions
[edit]I'm getting rather annoyed with the Canadian chart position on most of the singles articles of which I've placed the peaks on getting removed or swapped around. Where does it state that its position must be lower than the United States or the United Kingdom? And the same with Switzerland, its position was completely removed from the "Don't Speak" single information box.
I would like an explanation for this nonsense. DrippingInk 01:25, September 8, 2005 (UTC)
- The #1 music market in the world is considered the USA. Next is the UK followed by Australia. After that, it doesn't matter. Why do you keep placing Canada so high? No offense or anything, but Canada does not come ahead of the UK or Australa in importance (in dealing with music markets). It's ok to list Japanese and Candian positions, but if we list Switzerland, we might as well list every country in the world OmegaWikipedia 01:45, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- ...Excuse me? If a chart position is known of a certain song, then of course it should be posted! Who do you think you are saying that? And you know, I never have heard such a story like that – yes, the USA position I can believe, but not once have I heard that the U.K. or Australia come before Canada. I can place it that high if I want – it's like Canadians don't have a say in anything. How dare you say that! DrippingInk 20:02, September 8, 2005 (UTC)
- What? Well, ok, look at the page for What You Waiting For?. There are at least 10 countries listed. We're not going to list them all. What do you mean you have never heard of that? The UK chart has always been 2nd most important, and ARIA third. Its true, whether you want to believe it or not, but how about this....Canada doesnt even have a chart anymore. Once again, Im guessing youre Canadian, and no offense, this is nothing personal, but the Canadian chart is just not as important as the other 3. It's 4th place, but its not 2nd place. OmegaWikipedia 20:38, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
I don't care if it's not as important! This does not mean it cannot go at the top of the list! 64.231.160.101 23:31, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
The UK and USA are indeed the major music markets in the world, but I wouldn't count Australia among them. Record sales and international significance of the Australian music business are not very high. Should you want a third region with real significance, I would suggest to include either Germany or Europe as a whole (e.g. using the pan-European Eurochart Hot 100 as source), although I must admit that it's extremely difficult to get hold of chart statistics from the Eurochart as this chart has never been widely published. Also, I think certain international chart positions from "lesser" countries should be included if they are newsworthy. For instance, The Netherladns was the first country outside the US where "Don't speak" was a number one single (December 1996, two months before the UK), so that's remarkable enough to be granted a mention here. who cares how high the charts are placed...it still gets read
"Due to contrary belief"? -Boris B 21:53, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
I changed it before reading this, but think that "despite contrary belief..." is what was intended. Britmax 19:28, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Meaning
[edit]The song is about Tony and Gwen's breakup. I have read numerous sites that it has. Maybe I need to find them. Tezkag72 (talk) 01:03, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
Christmas tree?
[edit]The article stated that the video starts with the bassist plucking a rotten piece of fruit from a Christmas tree. I just watched the video. It isn't a Christmas tree; not even close. I changed the section to just 'tree.' --Bentonia School (talk) 11:29, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
