I think you're referring to Paul Erdős, though the English Wikipedia can't store the article under the correct name, so it uses o-umlaut instead. munt fish 12:39, 2005 Feb 1 (UTC)

Handwriting

It would be interesting to know how the Hungarians write the double accent in handwriting, and how it is distinguished from the "diaresis". Mats 13:08, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

As simple, as it can get: they write it as a double line as opposed to the double dot of the ö, ü, which are indeed written as double dots. Your question, I guess, came from the presumption you might know from Swedish or German, where the double dot (of the printed letters) might look like a double acute, a macron or a tilde in handwriting. No Hungarian I know does that, for understandable reasons. Ok, if you don't lift the pen enought, it might look like a little handwritten u, but that's about it. Szabi 11:32, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Köszönöm very much for your answer! Would it be possible to include a picture showing ö/ő and ü/ű in (your) handwriting? Or maybe it's only me who's interested in that? Support on PalmOS?

I'm not an expert in PalmOS, but if it's an OS based on Unicode, then it supports them, and the question is how to input the letters. If it's a 8-bit encoding based OS, then you can maybe switch encodings. Szabi (talk) 13:05, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

In "Die Magyaren-Sprache in ihren Grundzügen beleuchtet von P." (Vienna, 1833; p.14) the Hungarian double acute accent is written as umlaut (like ö) + acut (like ó) over one letter (similar to ö́ ), and it is stated that forms like "ő" are new ("nach der neuesten Art").
