[edit]He is normally known in history as "Charles Stewart." Although he did change his surname to Vane, this was only after he inherited the marquessate of Londonderry, and so was never known as "Charles Vane". I would support moving this article to Charles Stewart, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry. Any thoughts? john k 15:11, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I agree. Done. Proteus (Talk) 11:59, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree. His surname was Steward from 1778-1829 and then Vane from 1829-1854. He wanted to be called Vane.Johannes Schade (talk) 07:59, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Talavera
[edit]The exhibition in the Scrabo Tower says "He was commended for bravery at the Battle of Talavera". His book "Narrative of the Peninsular War" describes this battle in Chapter XVI (p328-348). No particular brave action of his is mentioned.Johannes Schade (talk) 07:59, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Early Life
[edit]The section headed "Early Life" does not make sense. The dates don't work, the spelling "Stuart" must be wrong, and the paragraph is not about his early life at all but about his father and brother. Deipnosophista (talk) 19:45, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
Marquess of Derry
[edit]The user Eoghanmcgarvey on 7 October 2019 changed the name of the subject in the infobox from Londonderry to Derry. The heading of the infobox therefore now reads The Marquess of Derry. Eoghanmcgarvey did not carry this change through elsewhere in the article, which might indicate that this is a suggestion rather than a definite correction. Such a change might need consensus among the various known editors involved in the writing of the article. According to the stats page Tryde, 62.254.32.9, Choess, Phoe are among such Wikipedians. I myself believe that one cannot change a historical person's title to make it agree with the modern usage of the name of the town. Johannes Schade (talk) 07:28, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
