Ska or ska-punk or third wave ska?

I thought that they are a ska-punk band, perhaps even a third wave ska band in some albums, thus I wonder if they should be listed as a ska band. Even their myspace page states that they play ska/punk/reggae. A true ska band would select ska/ska/ska. Should it be changed? Agameofchess (talk) 02:59, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Rewrite

This article needs a rewrite because it is blatantly factually incorrect and also includes fan speculation as fact. I plan to rewrite it myself but if you know what you are doing and want to feel free. Also please first check the work in progress section of my user page as I may have started to write an improvement and not had time to finish it so dumped it there, and you might be able to work off of what I have done so far. What's incorrect? No, seriously? Aside from a possible discrepancy about who actually started the band, the existing article has the exact same info your rewrite does, just in less depth. Furthermore, I wasn't aware that openly pointing out fan speculation as fan speculation was a problem, really. A lot of people think there's some kind of heat between Catch 22 and Streetlight, although there *isn't*. That part, yeah, I'll edit. The rest is generally fine, as far as I'm concerned. -HX

Who Started Catch-22?

There have been some revisions by people claiming that Tomas started the band, whereas everything I've ever seen (including the bio on Victory Records' own website!) has said that Kevin started the band. Until I see something to prove it otherwise (like an interview), I'm deleting any edits that suggest otherwise. -HX 16:36, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Man, that interview is old. Old and retrospectively hilarious. Tomas doesn't want another album that sounds like KN and says that no matter what C22 sounds like, the fans won't care. Oh man, if only he knew. -HX 12:04, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

I know for a fact that Kevin Gunther started the band. I grew up with him in Spotswood, New Jersey, he graduated in 1997 which is the year before me. All people would talk about back then in school was Catch 22 (BTW They are NOT from East Brunswick, Kevin just said that because its a much larger town that is the next town over). James Egan wasn't the High School Band director. He was Kevin Gunther's band teacher at Appleby School (the elemetary school in town) & was later on a teacher in Spotswood High School's band Department. I can verify some of this. I live in Spotswood NJ and went to Spotswood Schools from 1991-2004. Jamie Egan was my piano teacher in 1st and 2nd grades and was indeed the Appleby School (not High School) band teacher. (He has since relocated to nearby North Brunswick.) Kevin Gunther did go to Spotswood as well. I always thought he graduated in 1996 but obviously I'll go with the dude above me...

How they got signed to Victory

In the interview at http://www.angelfire.com/sk2/catch22/a/int6.html, it says the following:

"Basically, when the Catch 22 demo came out -- the first demo -- about a year and a half ago, we sent a million of them out. Tomas sent them out to labels he got off the internet. You know, smaller labels. He came upon a small label called Toybox Records. It turns out that the owner and the guy that run's Toybox Records, works for Victory in their art department. He played the tape and it happened that the president of Victory heard the tape through, actually, the wall. He heard it and said "I really like this, I'd really like to sign these guys." He called us up, faxed Tom something, and within a month it was set and we signed the contract and it was over."

Catch 22 with RISC?

I've never seen any facts to support that and if I remember correctly, catch 22 was with Victory records for the whole time they were a band, excluding the "Rules of The Game" demo which was released before RISC started. Unless there is facts to support this, I think it is safe to remove the "RISC" tag from the "labels" tab.
