Talk:System Lord
Links
[edit]Is it really needed to link the same term every time it shows up in a short article?KorbenDirewolf
- No, linking only the first appearance is the correct style in majority view. Pjacobi 21:24, 17 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- It looks like someone came by and removed the doubled and trebeled links. Thanks for the info on that. KorbenDirewolf
NO LINK
SL List
[edit]Someone ("PeterAKer") seems to have removed a large number of system lords from the list, for no discernable reason. I would like to add them back, but want to avoid an edit war. Peter, can you explain why you removed them please? piman 00:13, 2004 Oct 2 (UTC)
Still Existant?
[edit]Considering the nature of the situation, as shown in Reckoning, it seems possible that Baal may be the only System Lord who is still alive. I suggest we make a comment along that lines in the "current system lords" paragraph. However, since this is just an assumption, I didn't want to go ahead and put that in there without discussing it first (even though I'm not actually remove anything). Thoughts?
It is often mentioned that there are plenty of System Lords at any given time. I very much doubt Baal defeated them all. Negative Bee 09:43, 4 August 2005 (UTC)
Merge
[edit]I don't think the proposal to merge the various system lord articles into this one is a good idea, except in the rare case of an article on a system lord that's only one or two lines long and can fit into the "notes" field. There are too many large articles in Category:Goa'uld that would have to be brutally compressed otherwise. Bryan 01:10, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, agreed, but the Nirrte article doesnt exactly have much does it? The decision is pretty simple: if a lord needs more explanation, give him/her a page. If you can exhaust him/her in three lines, dont.--alfakim 02:49, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- Error? Christian mythology Name Origin Traditional appearance Notes Seth Third son of Adam and Eve, though it could be Egyptian god Set Man
Yet on Seth's page it clearly states he's the Set from Egyptian mythology
-Poddster (I can't remember how to do the swanky linking bits here :)) 18/08/2005
I'm certain that Seth the Stargate cult leader is Egyptian, and not named after the son of Adam and Eve. Beyond having recently watched that episode: They've only mentioned Christianity twice (of the episodes I've seen in the first few seasons), and all mentions had to do with Sokar. Seth came before the first mention of Sokar, I think, and the team was surprised to hear of Christian references in the later episode. If Seth had been shown to be a Christian reference...well....
Further question, though: Jack O'Neil in the movie and Jack O'Neill in the series, right? Shouldn't the movie references use one L? (E.g. where it says that he killed Ra in the film.) Even though the movie is assumed backstory (basically) for the series, I think the work is a little distinct like that. Am I mistaken?Kilyle 00:08, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Moloch
[edit]Shouldn't Moloch be listed in the "Canaanite/Phoenician mythology" section? 18/12/2005
Klorel
[edit]Is anyone sure that Klorel was a system lord, i dont believe he was?--Matthew Fenton (t) 19:24, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
He wasn't, he was Apophis's "son" and served his "father". He commanded no significant resources of his own and, even ruling in his fathers stead wouldn't have given him the title.
Shouldn't There Also be...
[edit]... a picture of Sokar? Ra, Apophis, Anubis, and Baal were all the primary adversaries for some time in the series (Ra: movie, Apophis: Season 1-2, late Season 3-early Season 5, Anubis: Season 5-7, Baal: Season 8 on), but Sokar was a main villain for a while too (late Season 2- mid Season 3) and should be included in the column of pictures.
Stargate Worlds
[edit]Stargate Worlds also have published system lord insignia here: http://www.stargateworlds.com/warehouse/download/374_original.pdf They seem to be free to use. --Alfakim-- talk 14:06, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
- Free in what sense? They are symbols copyrighted by MGM or related Stargate companies, and at the very least by the company behind StarGateWorlds. The best that can be hoped for is finding a fair-use rationale for them, and I seriously doubt that would stand against the argument of decorative use. Actually, even the above email from Isto is invalid as permission is only given for use on Wikipedia, which is not permitted as a license (its either non-free fair-use or a derivative of free use, not "it's free for use here but not there and there..."). Let's just be happy with the few screenshots that can be justified, and not stretch this article's luck. -- Huntster T • @ • C 15:53, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
O'neill/O'neil
[edit]hey, I made "O'neill" to "O'neil" where it says he killed Ra. It was spelled with one "L" in the movie and two "LL"s in the series. MPaquette 15:34, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Non-System Lord deities
[edit]While the ploy of elaborately posing as false gods is at the heart of the Goa'uld's bid for domination, other races such as the Asgard have also employed this tactic to help primitive humans. A number of deific or great personas from Earth's past are also held to be benign aliens, most specifically, the Norse Gods are associated entirely with the Asgard. -- Umm, yes, this is true...but they can't be included in a System Lords' article now can they? But I am in 100% agreement that they should have their own page. Do they? >> DJB
Norse mythology
[edit]Name | Origin | Traditional appearance | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Thor | God of Thunder | Powerful Viking | Supreme Commander of the Asgard Fleet |
Heimdall | Guardian of Bifrost Bridge | Powerful Viking | Scientist[1] |
Loki | God of Mischief | Weak, cunning man; capable of shape-shifting | Rogue geneticist[2] |
Aegir | Lord of the Sea | Giant | Commander of the Valhalla who orchestrated the defense of the new Asgard homeworld, Orilla |
Kvasir | None | Powerful Viking | Scientist |
Hermiod | Messenger of the Gods | Powerful Viking | Engineer[3] |
Freyr | Male fertility God | unknown | member of the Asgard High Council |
Greco-Roman mythology
[edit]It is implied that most known Greek mythology developed after the Goa'Uld left Earth, hence only Cronus and possibly Ares were Goa'Uld. Perhaps because of this, Earth starships bear the name of characters from Greek mythology, namely the Prometheus and the Deadalus
There are strong suggestions that much of ancient Rome was influenced by the Ancients, but no specific details have been given. However, one and possibly two figures apparently from Roman myth have appeared: Egeria, queen of the Tok'ra, was based on Egeria, Roman lady of childbirth and wife of Numa Pompilius; and Janus, god of doorways, gates, beginnings and endings, appears to be based on an Ancient scientist whose experimentation with time travel might have something to do with the deity's associations with time. Furthermore, the language of Ancient, though not visually similar, is almost identical phonetically to Latin.
I removed the above section from the page because this is a page about the System Lords, not the deific origins of all aliens in Stargate. The Asgard, Tok'ra, and Ancients aren't System Lords. JBK405 01:13, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
And I accidentaly reverted it. Sorry. I'll revert back. Jaxad0127 01:24, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
