Demographics
[edit]The listed ethnic groups together add up to more than 100%. I suspect the Amhara are actually 23% rather than 33%.
Not "the administrative capital"
[edit]Removed the statement that Dire Dawa is the administrative capital of Ethiopia. I wondered if the writer meant administrative capital of a particular region, except Dire Dawa is its own administrative area. Gyrofrog 07:38, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Etymology
[edit]I've seen several flamewars on the competing claims (present and historical) to the area between Somalis and the now-more numerous Oromo. The present name seems to be Oromo so I'm providing that source and would appreciate if it could be protected from BIASed removal.
The flamewars I've seen involved a competing claim that the city's name derived from Somali dir. If someone could find a WP:RS for that (along with whatever "dawa" is supposed to mean), please include it as well, without removing the sourced Omoroo derivation. — LlywelynII 11:09, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
Dirree means plain or field in Oromo. It is spelt with two ee so the Oromo may have a typo 'Dirree Dhawaa'.
