Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of corset periods
List of corset periods was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was to keep.
Some time ago I listed a number of contributions of User:Haabet for deletion. I was told that summary listing is not appropriate, so I am trying again. No useful content, no potential to become encyclopedic. Delete. - Mike Rosoft 12:43, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
List of corset periods at its 12:34, 18 Nov 2004 revision was an empty list pointing to many "daughter" pages, mostly small. I have copied those daughter pages into List of corset periods, which is now a long article with == == header lines and a contents list.
Those daughter pages are:
Corset (before 1500) - - - is a VfD, so I left it alone.
Corset (1500-1970) - - - is a redirect to Corset in fashion, which is a VfD, so I left it alone.
Iron_corsetcover - - is a redirect to Iron corset, which is not a VfD. I turned both into redirects to List of corset periods.
Stays - - Is not a VfD. I turned it into a disambig between stays (nautical) and List of corset periods.
Victorian_corset - - is not a VfD. I turned it into a redirect to List of corset periods.
Straight_fronted_corset- - is not a VfD. I turned it into a redirect to List of corset periods.
Pipe-shape_corset - - is not a VfD. I turned it into a redirect to List of corset periods.
Those which I left alone because they are VfD's, could be converted into redirects to List of corset periods.
With this matter brought together, it seems to be a reasonably comprehensive article, if the matter is true.
The only other main failing that I can see is clear evidence that its author's first language is not English.
Keep. Corsets are as revelant as any other matter of our world. Anthony Appleyard 14:16, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- This master article is badly written, but it is a worthy home of Haabet's interests and covers a topic worthy of coverage. I recommend keep and send to clean up for language copyediting. Geogre 15:17, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Corsets have a ridiculous amount of potential to be encyclopedic, they've been around for so long, have evolved in different ways for different cultures, have had an impact on women throughout history. It's an incredibly interesting (if a bit obscure) historical topic. - Lifefeed 22:07, Nov 18, 2004 (UTC)

- Merge salvagable info with Corset in fashion or Corset. [[User:MacGyverMagic|Mgm|(talk)]] 12:50, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)
- Comment: I don't think that "list of corset periods" is an appropriate name of an article. I agree with MacGyverMagic - any useful information should be placed at Corset in fashion instead. (On the other hand, the table, originally appearing at Corset in fashion, is hardly encyclopedic content.) I also have doubts about the veracity, verifiability and notability of information present. I already listed the article on cleanup; at the moment, my vote is delete unless rewritten. - Mike Rosoft 13:22, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- I already had copied the contents of Corset in fashion into List of corset periods. Rename List of corset periods as History of corsets?. Anthony Appleyard 16:14, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- The topic is encyclopedic, but the current content is something of a mess, and spread into too many articles. History of corsets seems like a better title for the collected content (to be sent to cleanup), and I guess redir the titles the content was originally contributed as. - Delete. The information should be placed in the Corset article. DCEdwards1966 03:34, Nov 20, 2004 (UTC)
