Production date: 1974 or 1984?
[edit]I'm pretty sure this series is a full ten years older than currently stated. My old VHS recording of the last couples of episodes clearly states a 1974 production date. I've not altered anything until I can prove it. Anyway, i've corrected the name of the "Brass Daisy" as it is referred to as a "Daisy Rod" and i've also corrected the writing credits for programme and book.
- I have the book to hand. It was first published in 1984, and in the author's preface Marie Stuttard explains that she waited for each episode to be completed before writing the corresponding chapter, and makes no mention of a ten-year interval. IMDb says the TV series was from 1984. [1]
- In the book, Gretchen's Aunt Kathleen says "I call it the Brass Daisy" (p. 15), and Gretchen uses the name herself (pp. 32, 79) until Kolob identifies its parts to her; the narrative calls it the daisyrod (with no space), and the technical drawing has a single reference to the "daisy Rod" as a whole. (It has labels for the geodesic eyeball, flexible stalk, pyramid petals, delta nodes, delta generator, memory lense, etc.)
- In the preface, Marie Stuttard describes CotDS as "a collaboration from the beginning". She discussed her idea for the story with television dramatist Ken Catran; he wrote the TV scripts while she wrote the book and radio series (what happened with that?).

I've taken delivery of the newly released DVD this morning. A quick check of the copyright message at the end of each episode reveals a copyright year of "MCMLXXIV" which translates to 1974. I'd therefore suggest that this page be edited to reflect that and that the imdb does get it wrong from time to time! (It's that or TVNZ got their roman numerals horrifically wrong for six episodes straight.)
Saying that the fashions in the show are blatantly 70's anyway.
- The video game in the grocery store is from 1982.
- Also any information about this series out there states 1984.

- That's not the 70s, that's New Zealand!
- Since there is no record of the show existing prior to the 80s and it's unlikely they filmed it and then kept it in the can until then I suspect the "wrong roman numerals" theory is more likely. Artw (talk) 22:40, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Intro dogstar.jpg
[edit]Image:Intro dogstar.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Influences
[edit]"The storyline has similarities with Stephen King's The Tommyknockers which was released seven years later."
Can we say Tommyknockers has influenced Dog Star if Tommyknockers was written afterwards? - Shrivenzale (talk) 11:52, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
It certainly should not say seven years later because the film was released in 1984 and King's novel was published in 1987. That's three years.
