Page Move

[edit]

I have just moved this page from Edén Pastora Gómez. Wikipedia clearly favors not including the matronymic in entry names; for instance, Daniel Ortega instead of Daniel Ortega Saavedra, Carlos Fonseca instead of Carlos Fonseca Amador. Outside Wikipedia, it's standard practice in anglophone media. I don't see any reason to make an exception for Comandante Cero.

There is also the issue of the diacritics. There's a case to be made that dropping them would be more convenient for English-readers, and in fact this article was originally created at Eden Pastora. However, several other entries about Nicaraguans use diacritics, and because of the existing history there, it can't be moved there without going through Requested Moves. (That's why the preferred way of moving is to use the move tab, which takes the page history with it, rather than using cut-and-paste. It's possible the move tab didn't exist at the time.) For now, I'm satisfied with dropping the matronymic. --Groggy Dice 08:43, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Accuracy

[edit]

Reading the introduction to this article, I was struck by an obvious inaccuracy (which I have changed). The text was:

Pastora has been reffered to by many as "zero" for his extremly low voter turnout.

This doesn't seem to make much sense, but it's way off base: the name "zero" is part of his military nickname, "Commander Zero".

My concern is that this serious inaccuracy suggests the whole article cannot be trusted. I believe it needs to be re-researched and re-written from scratch, by someone who knows how to find reliable sources and extract accurate information. I regret that I can't do it myself at present. That's actually correct. In the latest elections, Pastora received 0.27% of the votes, so it's been a joke recently to use his nickname ironically. That's not to say this article isn't terrible and full of inaccuracies. I'm actually in the middle of writing a biography of Pastora for my university, once I'm done I'll come back and clean this page up. Ceichste (talk) 02:06, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ARDE drug trafficking claims

[edit]

The article originally incorporated a section discussing Pastora's ARDE Contra group and drug trafficking claims made about it. This cited highly unreliable sources, and since this article must meet BLP requirements, I've simply deleted the whole mess. There is still a poor quality article, in need of a complete rewrite. Section on role in Zapatista crisis

[edit]

This really long section had almost nothing to do with Pastora; it was also more like a personal essay than a wikipedia article and under sourced. I have removed the whole thing. If Pastora had an important role in the Zapatista crisis, please give a succinct, sourced account. Rgr09 (talk) 04:15, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
