Description
[edit]Cover scan of Amiga game Defender of the Crown.
The cover art of Defender of the Crown for Commodore 64 and Amiga 500 was put together by Peter Green Design and painted by Ezra Tucker, a renowned illustrator who has worked for Walt Disney and Universal Studios. He has won several awards and his work can be found in museum exhibitions and Fortune 500 collections.
Randy McDonald, responsible for art direction, design, and production for Cinemaware's first four games concludes in an interview that "Peter Greene or I would do a sketch of generally what we wanted for each cover. I went to Western Costume in Hollywood, which for many decades was the giant in the costume industry there, and rented costumes for the types of ”look” we had settled on for each cover. We hired models and brought them into Peter’s large photo studio, where we set them up in the costumes I had rented, posed as closely as possible to the way we wanted them to be illustrated."
The supposed artist, according to Randy McDonald, was supposed to be a Greg Winter - but eventually Ezra Tucker ended up being the final artist for the cover art.
Fair use in Defender of the Crown
[edit]Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- No free equivalent.: Kellyn Beck has released no such images into the public domain, and a replacement image could not be created that would adequately provide the same information.
- Respect for commercial opportunities.: The image is being used for no purpose other than to identify the subject of the article. It will not replace or subvert the original product, in that the original product was a video game, not an image. The use of this image neither detracts from the game nor inhibits its salability in any way.
- Minimal extent of use: The image resolution has been significantly decreased from the original, so copies made from it would be of inferior quality.
- Previous publication: The image has been displayed in public for many years when it appeared on store shelves.
- Content: This image is encyclopedic in that it shows the box for the original product.
- Media-specific policy: The use of this image falls under fair use; it is just an image of the media cover. It does not reveal or "spoil" anything within the product, which is a video game.
- One-article minimum: This image is used in at least one article, Defender of the Crown. It may appear in other related articles as well.
- Contextual significance: The lack of this image would detract from the user's understanding of the subject matter.
- Restrictions on location: This image is used in the article namespace.
- Image description page: That's this.
- Copyright holder: That would be Cinemaware, the maker of the game. I don't remember where I got this image from, but I asked for permission to use it first.
- Copyright tag: that's included on this page, in Wiki markup
- Each article where used:
- Defender of the Crown: It's fair to use it in this article because it is the cover of the subject of the article.
